Storage Crafts

Ribbon Woven Plastic Basket
This is a really simple project to just redo a little outdated storage basket

This is an old plastic basket that my grandmother let me use to put things in. Now that I am moving away I am salvaging everything I can! I saw potential in this little basket and I have one more I will try something different with next time.
Supplies
  • Curling ribbon (You can actually use any type of ribbon for this project. I am using scraps from gift wrapping!)
  • Scissors
  • Basket (Any basket would work as long as you have room to weave.)
I chose not to use the thick blue ribbon! Maybe next time.

*One of the things I made sure to do is when I got to the corners, I made sure that the ribbon ran along the outside of the basket. It did not look good the other way. Also, The ribbon I used had a glossy side and a non-glossy side. Sometimes it would twist and it was difficult to turn it correctly.

Here is a short little goofy explanation

In the end I think it turned out very unique. I am sure there is some way to tie the ribbon on the inside so it does not show. I didn't do it like that because I am using it for storage and if I am constantly knocking those knots, they might come loose sooner. That is just my theory.
I do have one more basket just like this one and I am looking for ideas for things to do with it.

This is the inside of the basket. My goal was to close in the larger holes so I could store smaller things in it.
Accomplished.
